Pluripotency is the capability of cell to develop into all of the cells of an embryo. In human body there are certain types of cells which are having this property. For example hematopoietic cells, lymphocytes stem cells etc. They can differentiate into large variety of cells with different functions but they all work together as a part of immune system. They are able to self-renew means they can create more copies of themselves. Mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells are pluripotent so they can differentiate into the various cell types of a vertebrate embryo. Pluripotency is the property of inner cell mass from which mouse ES cells are derived. This review shows that ES cells can self renew because of self organising network of transcription factors which avoid their differentiation and promotes their proliferation. This review also includes applications of pluripotency in treatment of various diseases.
